Kamakshi is a Hindu Goddess who is primarily worshiped in the Southern part of India. She is believed to be an incarnation of the supreme Goddess Parvati, who is revered as the divine mother and consort of Lord Shiva.
Legend has it that when Kamakshi Devi was meditating in Kanchipuram, a flood threatened to destroy the city. Undeterred, she summoned a great fire that dried up the floodwaters, earning her the title of the Goddess of Kanchipuram. A temple was built in her honor to celebrate her divine power.
